Two weeks’ preparation left for Mary Nolan Hickey’s KBC Dublin Marathon milestone

Official Hydration Partners

With two weeks to go to this year’s KBC Dublin Marathon, Mary Nolan Hickey knows better than most about the effort it takes to complete the grueling event.

She’s speaking as part of Ishka Irish Spring Water’s preparations to provide vital supplies for the event in two weeks’ time (October 27th), as this year’s Official Water Partner.

308,000 bottles of Ishka Irish Spring Water will be distributed across the course for marathon runners this year – the equivalent of nearly 1000 domestic baths, which no doubt each of the 22,000 competitors will be looking forward to after it’s all over.

Organisers expect runners to actually consume 77,000 thousand litres of Ishka Irish Spring Water. At the end of the event, the bottles will be collected for recycling, as the bottles, caps and labels are 100% recyclable, specifically designed for responsible disposal.

Wexford woman Mary is the only woman to have run every one of the Dublin City Marathons since it began, 40 years ago this year. Although she’s carrying an injury this time around, she won’t be put off: “My intention is to get to the start line and no matter what it takes, to get to the finish line”.

Her determination is inspiring for others, and she has this advice for people taking on their first marathon:

“It will be tough. If it was easy there’d be millions of people doing it. The most important thing is pace. If you go off like a headless chicken, you’ll run into more problems. But if you can get yourself to 15 miles and you’re not in distress, you’ll finish, you CAN get through it”!

Director of Ishka Irish Spring Water, Mike Sutton, says:

“We’re delighted to be working with marathon organisers in this milestone 40th year of the Dublin event. The determination of these runners to push their bodies to the limit is incredible and we’re extremely proud to provide Ishka Irish Spring Water to help them along their way”.

Ishka Irish Spring Water water rises from protected, natural springs in Ballyneety in County Limerick, where it is naturally filtered through the local bedrock. The water is bottled at source, untouched by human hand, in a state of the art facility, the biggest of its kind in Ireland. The company is second generation, 100% Irish owned and will celebrate its 40th birthday next year.
